Described as fluid, mesmerizing and inimitable, Lori Freedman is recognized by a variety of audiences including dance, theater, new music, electroacustics and improvisation. She performs regularly with the Vancouver New Music Ensemble, Banff Music Theater Productions,and Winnipeg's duo-actuelle Queen Mab(with Marilyn Lerner, piano). She has held positions with both the Winnipeg and Vancouver Symphony Orchestras and was a co-founder of the inter-discipline ensemble Thira. Freedman frequently appears on Festival lineups including Hornsby Island, Du Maurier Jazz, Women in View, Winnipeg Symphony New Music, and Victoriaville Musique Actuelle.

Ms. Freedman is highly active in the commissioning of Canadian composers to write for her, and has been largely responsible for the growing interest in and expansion of repertoire for the Bass Clarinet. Her 3 most recent premieres were commissioned works of Paul Steenhuisen (Freedman Etudes-Toronto), Michael O'Neil (Stabimbilism-Vancouver) and Peter Hannan (Needles-Winnipeg). She has appeared as a guest soloist with the CBC Vancouver Chamber Orchestra and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra winning her standing ovations and rave reviews. Of her performance of his clarinet concerto, John Corigliano publicly declared that "Freedman now owns this piece."

The list of her work recorded on compact disc continues to grow, ACTION/REACTION< WESTLIGHT< PASSAGES IN TIME< 'PYTHAGORAS' GHOST and BARBIE'S OTHER SHOE, to name a few. Recently she completed her first composition commissioned through the Canada Council entitled No Man's Clan, a work for five Bass Clarinets. In addition she was awarded two major arts grants for the creation, development and preparation of new repertoire for her upcoming solo performances and CD recording.
