NINE WINDS DISCOGRAPHY:
NWCD0183 Paul Carman and ESP - Even Picasso Couldn't Find Her
Paul Carman saxophoneSaxophonist Paul Carman is a veteran of the Frank Zappa Band of the late 1980's (in Frank's own words, "the best band you never heard in your life"). Rehearsing, touring (1988-89 world tour), and recording with one of music's most influential groundbreakers inspired Carman to form his own ensemble and start having as much fun as Frank did with his bands.
Paul cites his early influences as Paul Desmond, Gene Krupa, Led Zepplin, The Beatles, Cannonball Adderley, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, Keith Jarrett, Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, Tom Waits, and Jan Garbarak.
Carman formed his current band, ESP in 1992 choosing to go back to his first love, the acoustic jazz quartet, and incorporate his diverse musical interestes into this classic format. The musicians that Paul chose all share his affinity for these diverse musical influences yet, like himself, are rooted in the jazz tradition. Their second release, "Even Picasso Couldn't Find Her" is ESP's most cohesive and inspired recording to date.
